Hi, I’m Marissa.
I’m my happiest on a quiet Sunday morning with coffee in one hand and something to read in the other. I prefer early bedtimes and a morning walk or yoga over a late-night Netflix binge and sleeping in. I find old doggos more lovable than puppies. Oh, and I love words. So much so that I went and made them my job.
I’ve been a copywriter for nearly seven years.
My career began at a home remodel and design e-commerce company where I wrote hundreds (if not thousands) of descriptions for products ranging from that oversized clock hanging on the wall above your sofa to the eight-piece furniture set featured in your formal dining space. I also wrote short-form copy for their weekly shop newsletter series. After a few years, a promotion, and a cross-country move, I outgrew my role and sought out a position that would push me even further. That search led me to a global marketing company where I wrote campaign copy, newsletters, website copy, landing pages, video and radio scripts, in-store signage, print copy, and more for one of their Fortune 500 clients.
The growth I experienced between both of these roles prepared me for my most recent one as a copywriter at Snap Inc. where I helped craft narratives that positioned Snapchat as a leading ad platform for global businesses. Between B2B campaigns and some of their biggest tentpole moments, I wrote a lot. And thanks to their one-of-a-kind roster of kind, smart, and creative employees (up and down the ladder), I learned even more.
As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. At the end of summer 2022, I was part of the 20% that was affected by Snap’s company-wide layoffs. My department was hit particularly hard, and that impact unfortunately left me without a job. It didn’t, however, leave me without the drive to write. I’m confident it’s left me more resilient and more eager to jump in and contribute to a new role with a new company.
